The UC Berkeley Chapter of the Young Democratic Socialists of America hosted a screening of the Palestinian documentary “Jenin, Jenin” to raise legal funds and support for Jerusalem Coffee House, a Palestinian-owned cafe, last Saturday.
The cafe, located on Telegraph Avenue in Oakland, and its owner, Abdulrahim Harara, are being sued by the Louis D. Brandeis Center for Human Rights Under Law, or Brandeis; the Anti-Defamation League, or ADL; and, most recently, the U.S. Department of Justice, or DOJ, for allegedly violating the civil rights of two Jewish individuals in 2024.
Both individuals, Jonathan Hirsch and Michael Radice, were wearing baseball caps with the Star of David on them when they were allegedly asked by Harara if they were Zionists and told to leave the cafe, according to the lawsuits by Brandeis and the ADL.
