Abubaker Mohammed says first-time drivers shouldn't be afraid to get behind the wheel.
"I will teach you," said Mohammed, a certified driver's education instructor who helps adults earn their driver's licenses through an Oakridge Neighborhood program.
Mohammed, who became an instructor two years ago, leads the local nonprofit's driver's education program, which first launched in 2012. Instructors teach in several languages, helping new drivers feel more at ease as they learn the rules of the road and take that step toward independence.
The program is open to all adults, but most clients have been immigrants and refugees.
