On his deathbed, Charles told his father a “white lie” that he had already signed a Formula 1 contract, even though it wasn’t finalized yet. That weekend in Baku, Charles raced through grief with incredible composure and won the feature race from pole position. A few months later, the promise to his father came true when he signed with Sauber for his 2018 F1 debut.
