A LITTLE HYDRANT WITH A BIG STORY! đŸ”„ The Golden Fire Hydrant by Dolores Park isn’t just painted for looks. In 1906, when the earthquake and fires devastated San Francisco, this lone hydrant still worked — and saved much of the Mission District from destruction. Every year on the anniversary of the Great Quake, at exactly 5:12 a.m., it gets a fresh coat of gold paint to honor the moment when 80% of the city was lost — and when one small hydrant helped save what remained. To this day, you’ll often see flowers and gifts left at its base, tokens of love and gratitude from the community. There’s so much history hidden in the Mission. Follow our guide (at the 🔗 in our bio) to uncover more of the neighborhood’s treasures. #OnlyInSF #BelieveInSF
