Over the past couple of decades, a series of corporate decisions cut many of the city’s economic ties with its homegrown brand — selling off operations and buildings, trimming jobs. In 2015, it dropped the “H.J.” part of the historic name to create a combined food giant named Kraft Heinz.
On Tuesday, a decade after the merger that created Kraft Heinz, company management announced plans to split into two publicly traded companies. Officials didn’t give a lot of details on what that might look like but they said there are no plans to change its dual headquarters in Pittsburgh and Chicago.
The question for Pittsburghers is what will this new corporate move bring — even if it can never bring back the extensive manufacturing operations that left such a mark on the city.
