The National Rifle Association of America (NRA) has come out in opposition to news that Trump’s Department of Justice is considering a ban on trans people owning guns in the wake of a deadly sh00ting in Minneapolis last week. In a statement, the NRA said: “The Second Amendment isn’t up for debate. […] NRA does not, and will not, support any policy proposals that implement sweeping gun bans that arbitrarily strip law-abiding citizens of their Second Amendment rights without due process.” The statement comes in response to suggestions that trans people in the U.S. could be banned from owning guns, most likely by declaring gender dysphoria to be a “serious mental illness” that outweighs their Second Amendment rights.
