Cancer is a devastating disease that leaves a lasting impact on people’s lives, even long after treatment ends. That’s why Berrien County Cancer Service is adding programs to meet the needs of patients before and after cancer treatment, said Marquette alumna Tyanna Weller Essig, who became CEO and president of the organization this year. “We were told that people want more in-person support groups and they want survivorship classes and they want (to know) what you do after you ring the bell,” says Essig. As a result, Essig and her team are building on the foundation of the in-home skilled nursing care the organization has been providing for the past 77 years.
