“A very exciting day.”   That’s how scientists described a breakthrough in their research into the rampant chlamydia epidemic in Australian Koalas.    A vaccine which could save the country’s endangered koala population from the disease was approved for rollout for the first time earlier this week.   Chlamydia - which is transmitted by close contact or mating - can cause painful urinary tract infections, conjunctivitis, blindness and infertility in koalas, and is often fatal.   University of the Sunshine Coast scientists have spent more than a decade developing the jab - and are now hoping for major funding to distribute it.    Tap the link in BBCNews’s bio to read why finding a treatment has been so difficult.    #Koala #BBCNews
