LIONS MAKE NATIONAL STATEMENT WITH WIN AT WOODBRIDGE CLASSIC: Under the bright lights of the nation’s largest showcase meet, the jserra.tfxc Girls Cross Country team proved to be the undisputed headlining stars, as the Lions made history by winning the Bob Day Sweepstakes Race at the 44th annual Woodbridge Cross Country Classic on Saturday night at the Great Park in Irvine.
The Lions collectively surged into the team scoring lead after the first mile and never relinquished their placement.
Sophomore Kaia Streadbeck fronted the team’s winning effort by placing 16th in a time of 16:36.1.
Junior Reese Holley (16:39) and freshman Maya Pawlowicz (16:45.5) gave the Lions the distinction of being the only team in the race to have three runners clock sub-16:50 times.
Senior Chloe Elbaz (17:08.3) and freshman Brooklyn Tennant (17:20.5) capped the team’s scoring quintet, all of whom scored in the top 75.
