🏛️ Empowering Young Citizens Through Community Action
In collaboration with our Middle Years Program (MYP), seventh and eighth graders had the opportunity to meet with representative Kira Garfinkel from West Side Campaign Against Hunger (WSCAH_) during their community times this week.
Connecting to their Personal and Social Development micro-courses — where students dedicate time to community engagement through Service as Action, learning to identify needs and take meaningful steps to address them — students explored WSCAH's important work addressing food scarcity in NYC. They engaged in vital conversation about current, related legislation, and exploring the day-to-day impact of food pantry operations here in the city, culminating in civic action as students wrote postcards to NY state legislators advocating for continued funding of Nourish NY—a vital program that redirects surplus agricultural products to those who need them most.
We love to see our students connecting classroom ...
