A few weeks ago, the cityofsavannah unveiled a new monument in Columbia Square honoring the seven ladies who started the push for historic preservation in Savannah in the 1950s, beginning with the Davenport House (behind Róisín). They raised $22,500 to purchase the 1820 Federal style home and saved it from being knocked down for a funeral home parking lot. They would go on to form the Historic Savannah Foundation myhsf and save several more historic homes.
