Our ESA/Hubble Picture of the Week returns to a well-studied spiral 🌌
🔴 This is NGC 7496, a galaxy located over 24 million light-years away in the constellation Grus (The Crane). Its active galactic nucleus, dust clouds, and star formation make it an attractive target for astronomers!
🔴 NGC 7496 has been observed many times before, in wavelengths from radio to ultraviolet. It was first observed as part of the PHANGS programme, has enlisted the abilities of several powerful astronomical observatories, including alma.observatory , esoastronomy 's the Very Large Telescope, and esawebb, in addition to Hubble.
🔴 Each observation offers a new perspective. This image incorporates new NASA/ESA Hubble Space Telescope data that highlights the galaxy’s star clusters, which are surrounded by glowing red clouds of hydrogen gas.
