Our ESA/Hubble Picture of the Week features stars of all ages! 👶👴
🔴 The spiral galaxy NGC 6000 has a glowing yellow centre and glittering blue outskirts. The colours reflect differences in the average ages, masses, and temperatures of the galaxy’s stars ⭐
🔴 Stars in the heart of the galaxy tend to be older and smaller, while stars along the spiral arms tend to be young and massive.
🔴 The NASA/ESA Hubble Space Telescope collected the data while surveying the sites of recent supernovae. NGC 6000 has hosted two: in 2007 and 2010. Hubble’s sensitive detectors make it possible to discern their faint glow years after the initial explosion!
