Our #HubbleTopImage features the massive galaxy cluster Abell 1689! This image provides a striking view of the gravitational lensing caused by Abell 1689 – the cluster acts like a cosmic lens šŸ” magnifying the light from objects lying behind it and making it possible for astronomers to explore incredibly distant regions of space. The NASA/ESA Hubble Space Telescope observations from which this image was produced were taken to explore the globular clusters within Abell 1689. While our galaxy, the Milky Way, is only home to around 150 of these old clumps of stars, Hubble spied some 10,000 globular clusters within Abell 1689! For more information check the link in bio. šŸ“· NASA, ESA, the Hubble Heritage Team (STScI/AURA), J. Blakeslee (NRC Herzberg Astrophysics Program, Dominion Astrophysical Observatory), and H. Ford (JHU) #ESA #Hubble
