I remember the oldtimers would tell me to make sure I found a woman who knew how to keep a peaceful home. They left out the part that we as men have a major role in contributing to the peace. Creating a happy, healthy, and safe environment is a team sport. I silenced the noise around what we were committed to building. Everyone can’t speak into that. I was excited to read the relationship books, too. If we were not growing together I knew we would grow apart. Even though it took a minute for me to be excited for ANOTHER conversation…. (the LAST thing men want to do when the sun goes down and the kids go to bed… is talk) But I had the crucial, uncomfortable conversations.
