LIONS ROAR PAST THE FIELD AT CLOVIS INVITATIONAL: The jserra.tfxc Girls Cross Country team continued its’ dominant, season-long run past the competition on Saturday, as the Lions claimed the team title in the Bill Buettner Girls Championship Race at the ASICS Clovis Invitational at Woodward Park in Fresno.
JSerra seized control of the “state meet preview” moments after the runners accelerated off the starting line, as the Lions' trademark cumulative strength overwhelmed a powerhouse field of teams.
JSerra packed five scorers in the top 10 in the first mile to jump out to an 18-point advantage over Buchanan High School.
Led by freshman Maya Pawlowicz and junior Reese Holley (who each slotted into the race’s top 10), the Lions tightened their grip on first place with a 46-point bulge over Buchanan at 2.1 miles.
Pawlowicz maintained her team-leading placement through the last mile and stepped across the finish line in ninth place with a time of 17:35.6.
