We’ve been celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month at Joffrey Ballet School, and today we’re highlighting year-round Faculty, Gabriela Garcia, guiding our NYC Jazz & Contemporary Year 4 trainees in Theater Dance. On this episode of “In the Studios” Gabriela shared her original choreography inspired by Carnaval Del Barrio from the musical “In The Heights”, working with our dancers through a vibrant exploration of rhythm, community, and culture. Through her class, Gabriela emphasized the rich influence of Hispanic and LatinX communities in dance and music—honoring their celebrations, struggles, and enduring pride reflected through movement and musicality. We continuously strive to connect our students to the cultural roots that shape dance across the world. We’re deeply grateful to Gabriela for sharing her artistry, heritage, and heart with our dancers—encouraging them to celebrate culture through expression and connection.
