The Israeli military said it launched air strikes and artillery fire at targets in southern Gaza on Sunday (October 19) in response to reported ceasefire violations by Hamas. Israeli government spokesperson Shosh Bedrosian told reporters Israel remained committed to the agreement and continued to uphold its obligations, demanding Hamas return the bodies or remains of the 16 deceased hostages it had not handed over. Bedrosian said the Israeli strikes were made after "terrorists fired an anti-tank missile and gunfire towards" Israeli troops working to dismantle "terrorist infrastructure".
