What to keep an eye out for when shopping vintage, estate sales or antiques:
1. Wooden pieces that haven’t been painted. Dressers, chests, nightstands, buffets, hutches…these are more desirable and valuable in their natural state. Wood is back! Refinishing a quality wooden piece is always less than the same quality today.
2. Flip over the back of that plate! I’ve found some incredibly old and unique china by knowing what brands to look for on the back stamp.
3. Never pass by books. You can never have too many books! They add so much character and warmth to any bookshelf.
4. Lamps are a great thing to pick up because even if they don’t have a shade, you can find a unique base at a great price. You can always have a custom shade made or find one at your favorite design store.
5. Upholstered furniture to recover. Look for a classic chair frame or interesting shape to reupholster and turn into something beautiful for your home.
Bonus: other things...
