One of the most meaningful parts of working on the Student Services Team is being a safe space for students when big feelings show up. But sometimes, too much comfort can keep kids from learning how to face challenges with confidence. This year, the DJDS Student Services Team is focusing on helping students build emotional agility, the ability to face uncomfortable emotions, learn from them, and keep moving forward. Avoiding tough feelings might feel good in the moment, but it can make fears grow stronger over time. At DJDS, we validate every feeling, but we also help students develop the skills and resilience they need to navigate discomfort. Supporting kids doesn’t always mean rescuing them. Sometimes, it means standing beside them as they learn they can do hard things. Read Rebecca Hibshman, Director of Lower Division Learning, and the Student Services Team's full blog on emotional agility on our website.
