Mystery trash, spooky fun, and serious reading skills? Yes, please!
Turn making inferences and drawing conclusions into an experience your students will actually love. Fill a bag with 8–10 “trash” items, empty bottles, printouts, pantry finds, and let students investigate. Model it once, then let CSI teams go to work! 🕵️♀️🕵️♂️
Students make inferences about each item, then piece together conclusions supported by evidence. Bonus: turn it into a creative writing opportunity by having them write stories about the “characters” they uncover.
This lesson works for any grade level and can be as spooky (or as silly) as you like.
