The San Francisco Bay Area was plunged into chaos last week after news of the deployment of more than 100 federal immigration agents to the Bay Area broke Wednesday night. As federal agents arrived at Coast Guard Island in Alameda on Thursday morning, they were met by rapidly organized resistance from community groups and political leaders. President Donald Trump’s administration called off its planned immigration “surge” around 10 a.m. that day, citing conversations with San Francisco Mayor Daniel Lurie and prominent tech CEOs in a Truth Social post, but tensions remain high in the Bay Area amid uncertainty about the future.
