Collectors may typically look to Breguet for tourbillons or the many escapement technologies that started under the name, but the humble perpetual calendar complication is deeply ingrained in the history of this brand. The pocket watch here, no. 4420, is a great example of this. Cased in 18ct pink gold and sold in 1922, this two-train perpetual calendar watch with chronograph seconds represents the peak of pocket watch mastery. The intriguing layout features apertures for day and month, retrograde date, and a moonphase display within a fixed oval cutout depicting the night’s sky. A chronograph engaged via the crown is capable of timing to the 1/5th second via jumping hand at six o’clock. The original owner of this gorgeous pocket watch, Mr. Jean Dollfus, was one of Breguet’s most important patrons at the time.
