Between 1808 and 1815, Breguet produced a rare series of five-minute tourbillon pocket watches like this. Featuring a reverse chain-fusee with maintaining power, an échappement naturel escapement, and a three-arm bi-metallic compensation balance mounted on a four-minute tourbillon carriage, this series of watches were the Richard Milles of their time. One of the five even found its way into the collection of King George III of England. No. 1890, seen here and on offer in the upcoming 'A Celebration of Breguet’s 250th Anniversary' sale at #SothebysGeneva, was originally purchased by Count Alexis de Razoumoffsky. The client’s name has been etched into the dial in the style of Breguet’s famous “secret signature.” If this dial layout looks familiar, it’s because the lineage of this series lives on in the new Breguet Classique 7225, released by the brand just last week as a part of its anniversary celebrations.
