In 2016, Azat Gündoğan and his family fled Turkey. His signing of the “Academics for Peace” petition was labeled terrorist propaganda by the government, and his family feared retaliation.
Luckily, the Gündoğans were part of an international academic community that stretched as far as Ithaca. Azat became an IIE-Scholar Rescue Fellow who was hosted in Cornell University's Mario Einaudi Center for International Studies.
The resources and connections he built at Cornell helped him to land a job. Now, he is an associate teaching professor in the University Honors Program at Florida State University.
