Today is the anniversary of Sachen Kunga Nyingpo (1092–1158), the third in the lineage of Sakya throne holders and the first of the five founding patriarchs of Sakya. Known as Sachen, the great Sakyapa is a trailblazer in the development of the Sakya tradition. His father, Khon Khonchok Gyelpo, was the first Sakya throne holder and the founder of what became Sakya Monastery.
