This clip from a few nights ago says a lot about how we view competitiveness—and it’s not about Brandon Ingram. Somewhere along the way, we started confusing emotional outbursts and disregard for others with being a “true competitor.” They’re not. They’re signs of immaturity and self-focus. Too often we excuse poor behavior—from players and coaches—by calling it passion. But anger, frustration, and emotional blowups are not the same as competing hard. A real competitor shows they care through how they prepare. They rise above their emotions when it matters most. They stay locked in on what helps their team succeed.
