COP30, the UN's climate change conference, has begun in Brazil. The two weeks of talks kicked off on Monday in the city of Belém on the edge of the Amazon rainforest. In his opening speech at the conference, Brazil's President Lula said the world must "defeat" climate denialism and fight fake news. The US has sent no senior diplomats to the event, after President Donald Trump branded climate change "a con job" and promises to invest heavily in fossil fuels.
