Researchers have found that infants can distinguish between helpful and unhelpful behavior earlier than once believed. In classic experiments, babies watched puppet interactions where one character helped another and another character interfered. Many infants later reached for or paid more attention to the helper, showing an early sensitivity to prosocial actions. Other studies using looking-time methods show that babies often stare longer at events that violate their expectations, including unfair or antisocial actions. These reactions suggest that infants notice when behavior doesn’t align with familiar or expected patterns. While this doesn’t mean babies have fully formed moral reasoning, it does show that the foundations of social evaluation appear very early in development. Some researchers propose evolutionary explanations for why humans might be predisposed to notice cooperation, though these ideas remain theoretical. #studies #pubity #viral
