⬇️In 1936, the Hotel del Coronado was already a national icon, standing nearly 50 years old and known as one of the largest wooden structures in the world. The Del hosted Hollywood elites escaping Prohibition’s aftershock, including stars from the booming Golden Age studios who flocked to its oceanside luxury. Its beachside ballroom and famed Crown Room were major social hubs, and the hotel’s red-turret roof had already become a symbol of California coastal glamour. By this time, The Del had electric lighting (installed in the 1880s with help from Thomas Edison), a booming seasonal tourism scene, and was one of the few places that blended old-world Victorian architecture with modern 1930s resort culture. It was also gaining a reputation for ghost stories—especially the lingering legend of Kate Morgan—adding mystique to the hotel’s already glamorous reputation. 🔔 Follow for more! discoversandiegous #sandiego #coronadoisland #sandiegorealestate
