Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene announced she will resign from Congress effective January 5, 2026, following a very public falling-out with former President Donald Trump. Once one of Trump's most prominent allies, Greene broke ranks over issues like the release of the Jeffrey Epstein files, foreign policy, and health care, and in her resignation statement she said she did not want her district to endure “a hurtful and hateful primary” backed by Trump. Greene is known for her outspoken conservative views.. In January, she called Democratic U.S. Rep. Sarah McBride, the first out trans member of Congress, a "child predator" because of a video of McBride reading the book ‘I Am Jazz’, about a trans girl, to children.
