With a trip across the Bay Bridge to Chase Center, Cal men’s basketball stared down its second real test of the season. A date with No. 18 UCLA to cap off the Empire Classic on the Golden State Warriors’ home court was a grand opportunity for the Bears to show why they should not be treated lightly this year.
The Bears showed just how ready they were, responding to this test in resounding fashion. Behind 22 points from senior forward Chris Bell and an astounding 50% 3-point shooting as a team, Cal walked out of Chase Center with an 80-72 victory, earning its first ranked win in Mark Madsen’s tenure and first overall since February 2020.
