Buildings don’t make cities, but they do shape societies.
Exploring big cities like Caracas always makes me reflect on how public and private spaces influence the way urban landscapes grow. Caracas is a particularly interesting example: built in a valley, it has long been divided between the upper areas where many barrios are located and the city center. Over time that gap has shifted, and thanks to projects like the cable car, those communities have become more connected and accessible, mixing the city in new ways.
If you scroll all the way to the end of the carousel, you’ll find a video of a pedestrian crossing with a traffic-light system I wish were more common. The only other place I’ve seen it is Iran.
