A Pecan Old Fashioned is my favorite cocktail during the holidays.
You can make an old fashioned with rye whiskey or bourbon, but my preference is to use a rye so that the cocktail is not too sweet. However, use what you enjoy. We use sazeracrye by buffalotracedistillery in this recipe, because it is easy to find at your local liquor store and it is delicious. I use my homemade simple pecan syrup. You can sub any simple syrup you like or you can also muddle a sugar cube instead. As always, all of my recipes can be found at
MeatChurch.com, but here ya go:
Instructions:
Pour the 2 oz of sazeracrye whiskey, 1/2 oz of pecan simple syrup, 2 dashes of angostura bitters and 2 dashes of black walnut bitters in an iced mixing glass. Stir with a bar spoon to combine.
Pour over a large cube in a low ball or rocks glass.
Express an orange peel around the rim and garnish with it as well as a luxardo cherry and one of the pecans from the simple syrup.
