BMW once made an ad about the Mercedes CEO retiring, and on the surface it looks ordinary… ㅤ but it’s honestly brilliant. ㅤ Not because it’s packed with BMW logos or big action shots. ㅤ It works because it completely flips what viewers expect. ㅤ The ad starts off feeling like a Mercedes commercial. ㅤ It honors the retirement of legendary Mercedes CEO Dieter Zetsche, showing him leaving headquarters for the last time. ㅤ Employees wave, people applaud, and the whole thing feels emotional and respectful. ㅤ Then comes the twist. ㅤ He gets home, opens his garage… ㅤ and he’s driving a BMW i8 Roadster. ㅤ That one reveal does everything. ㅤ BMW honors their rival while subtly suggesting that even Mercedes’ own CEO would pick a BMW when no one’s watching. ㅤ They even closed with: ㅤ “Retirement is about exploring your wide open future,” ㅤ and a thank-you to Mercedes for “so many years of inspiring competition.” ㅤ The timing was perfect too. ㅤ The ad dropped right as Zetsche actually retired, and ...
