Reddit filed a lawsuit on Friday in Australia’s High Court seeking to overturn the country’s newly implemented social media ban for children under 16, arguing that the law unlawfully restricts free political communication implied under the Australian constitution.⁣ ⁣ The San Francisco–based company, for whom Australia is one of its largest markets, said in its filing that the nationwide ban should be declared invalid. It also argued that, even if upheld, Reddit should be exempt, claiming the platform does not fit the legal definition of social media.
