Director Neeraj Ghaywan’s latest film, Homebound, produced by Karan Johar and backed by Martin Scorsese, is already generating Oscar buzz as India’s official submission to the Academy Awards. Inspired by a New York Times essay, the film tells the story of two childhood friends in rural India whose dreams collapse during the pandemic. Shanelle Kaul caught up with the people behind the film in Mumbai, India.
