Merriam Webster has chosen “slop” as its 2025 Word of the Year. The dictionary now defines it as “digital content of low quality that is produced usually in quantity by means of artificial intelligence,” a word people are using for the endless stream of cheap videos, images and posts filling their feeds.
Editors say lookups for “slop” have surged this year as more people complain about weird AI generated clips, junky auto written books and low effort content online, and the term has become a way to push back and ask for more genuine human made work.
Do you think “slop” is a fair word for what you see on your timeline, or is it overused now?
