Despite receiving multiple offers around the WNBA, Fowles chose Portland because she felt it was the best fit, citing the appeal of helping build an expansion franchise from the ground up and working with a new group of players she doesn’t have strong prior ties to. 👏
Sylvia Fowles dominated the WNBA from 2008–2022, starring with the Chicago Sky before anchoring a Lynx dynasty, earning four Defensive Player of the Year awards, a league MVP in 2017, two titles (2015, 2017) — plus Finals MVP honors in both — and retiring as the WNBA’s all-time leading rebounder while ranking fourth in blocks.
