Nuguse won last year’s race in 3:46.63 to break the previous WR of 3:47.01 set by Yomif Kejelcha in 2019. Nuguse became the first American to hold the mile world record indoor or outdoors since Mary Slaney held both women’s records in the 1980s. It was short-lived as Jakob Ingebrigtsen broke Nuguse’s record less than a week later by running 3:45.14 in Liévin, France. 🏆🏆🏆🏆 Nuguse is looking to become just the 7th man to win four Wanamaker Mile titles since 1926. If he wins, he would be the fourth man to win at least four consecutive Wanamaker Mile titles.
