Did you know? The St. Augustine Lighthouse First Order Fresnel lens, circa 1874, has 370 hand-cut glass prisms arranged in a beehive shape towering twelve feet tall and six feet in diameter!
Nineteen prisms (of the 370 prisms) were damaged in 1986 when a vandal shot at the Lighthouse. The lens was repaired and the Light Station continues to operate as an active aid to navigation. The light comes on at dusk each evening.
