Being humble isn't a trait. It's a skill.
If you perceive somebody to be humble, it is not their personality you're perceiving.
Instead, its certain actions that they take in order to be considered a "humble person"
And TRUE humility is about the INTENTION behind those actions.
And when I started taking these actions, over time I truly rewired my brain to think differently.
Here's a definition of humility that changed my entire worldview:
"Humility is not decreased in regard for self, but it's increase in regard for others."
And here are the actions I took, which completely retrained my brain how to think:
1) Reminding myself constantly that no matter what room I was in everybody there had more to teach me than I had to teach them.
2) when I'm complimented, kindly accept the compliment with a smile, a "thank you, i appreciate it", and nothing more. Maybe acknowledge someone else's involvement, and pass along credit.
