As we count down the days to 2026, we are looking back at the twenty five years since the turn of the Millennium in Irish sport.
Starting today, we're picking the biggest sporting moment from each year at home and abroad featuring Irish sportspeople.
Some years are richer than others in achievements but it's fair to say these should jog some memories starting with Sonia O'Sullivan's gallant (and lonesome) silver medal in Sydney in the year 2000.
Soccer dominated the following two years as Ireland first qualified for the World Cup (the win against the Dutch slightly edged it for us over the play-off win over Iran, but only just) and then went to the last 16.
Tyrone and Peter Canavan getting their hands on Sam Maguire was 2003's highlight as they saw off the previous year's champions Armagh in a first ever all Ulster final while a first triple crown since 1985 was the start of a new era for Irish rugby in a 2004 that brought nothing but disappointment in the Olympics.
