Iranian dissident Masih Alinejad says protests are growing across Iran as people express anger over economic hardship, corruption and government repression.
Alinejad says protesters are “angry and furious” over the regime’s “mismanagement and corruption,” accusing it of sending money “to Hamas, Hezbollah for regional wars.”
“The same regime that’s creating 51 religious institutions right now, claiming that they are suffering from sanctions, but at the same time, they’re funding their proxies, they’re funding religious institutions, to oppress people,” Alinejad tells CBS News.
Alinejad says protesters have appealed directly to security forces amid tear gas and violence, urging them to join the demonstrations, and pointed to one exchange in which a protester said, “Your salary is worthless — why are you shooting us?”
