Two-time defending champion Beatrice Chebet 🇰🇪 will not compete at the World Cross Country Championships in Tallahassee, Florida on Jan. 10 and will miss the chance to make history with a third straight title.
Chebet would have been aiming to become the first Kenyan woman and third woman ever to win three straight senior titles at World XC.
The reigning Olympic and World champion at 5000m and 10,000m was initially listed as a reserve for Athletics Kenya’s roster after skipping the selection race in Eldoret. She was not part of the official team announcement today.
With Chebet out, Kenya’s women’s squad will be led by:
– Agnes Jebet Ngetich, road 10K world record holder and 2023 World XC bronze medalist
– Maurine Chebor, Kenyan national XC champion
– Brenda Kenei, Rebecca Mwangi, Caren Chebet, and Joyline Jepkemoi
Kenya swept the senior men’s and women’s team titles at the 2023 and 2024 World Cross Country Championships.
