Clouds can look colorful because sunlight interacts with tiny water droplets or ice crystals in different ways. At sunrise and sunset, the sun’s low angle scatters shorter blue wavelengths and lets reds, oranges, and pinks dominate.
Sometimes, very small droplets cause light to diffract, creating pastel rainbow effects called cloud iridescence. The thickness of the cloud and the amount of pollution or moisture in the air can also intensify these colors.
