Hours after the U.S. captured Venezuela’s president, Nicolás Maduro, President Trump said the U.S. would “run the country” and access Venezuela’s oil reserves. At a news conference on Saturday, Trump offered few details about how the U.S. would oversee Venezuela, or for how long. It was not clear whether that would involve an occupying military force. Trump said he was not afraid of “boots on the ground” and said that American oil companies would “rebuild” Venezuela’s oil infrastructure. Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores, are being taken to New York to stand trial on drug and weapons charges. This is a developing story. Follow the latest updates at the link in our bio.
