For years, Thomas Varey, Anastasia Lantsova, and Maddy Godin have patrolled humber___college's Lakeshore campus, logging every bird they found on the Global Bird Collision Mapper - more than 150 in 2023 alone, and Thom knows that’s only a small part of the actual number.
After seeing the same hotspots repeatedly, Thom spent 2.5 years nudging and advocating until he finally got the chance to propose a fix. He mapped nearly 2,000 sq ft of the highest-collision glass and recommended Feather Friendly markers as a practical, affordable solution.
A volunteer team quickly formed. With support from Carly Davenport and flapcanada volunteers, and the ensuing determined effort that transformed a dangerous stretch of campus into haven for birds.
This community-driven change is what makes our work at Feather Friendly worth it!
