happy #techniquetuesday. after a week off we're back at it folks like last time we're thinking about building speed. in the last installment the subject was playing slow so we can go fast. that's cool or whatever, but to play fast you have to also actually play fast, and aside from ramming your head against the wall no one really ever provided me with tips for how to go faster. the following method is derived from something i learned in body mapping class. i guess the teacher got it from the teacher of her daughter at whatever conservatory that kid goes to. the idea is that instead of progressively going faster on the metronome we start fast and turn her down. starting fast provides an "oh christ i cant do this feeling" but as the tempo gets slower we are able to get more notes and bring different areas of awareness like remembering to breathe, seeing a dude walk by your window carrying a bunch of sticks, hearing things, noting which parts you struggle to keep the duet with the metro...
