U.S. Department of Energy Secretary Jennifer Granholm visited yesterday to learn more about the geothermal energy research happening at the U and how we implement the technology on campus. The visit included a tour of the geothermal pump room at Gardner Commons. The building is entirely heated & cooled by ~150 geothermal wells located under a nearby soccer field. The system saves over $60k annually in energy costs.
